Beams wins Rising Star nomination
Collingwood midfielder Dayne Beams has won the AFL Rising Star nomination for Round 17.
Beams has averaged 17 possessions in the 11 games he has played this season since his AFL debut in round two.
He booted two goals in the Magpies' 54-point victory over Carlton at the MCG last Friday night
Recruited from Southport in Queensland, Beams was Collingwood's second selection (29th overall) at last year's AFL Draft.
He represented Queensland in the 2008 under 18 championships and is Collingwood's third rising star nominee this season following Jaxson Barham in round four and brad Dick in round 11.
Collingwood coach Mick Malthouse said Beams was a worthy winner.
"It's outstanding. Dayne's a terrific young kid who thoroughly deserves it," Malthouse said.
"He's been able to not only get into the side but stay in and stand up in a team that's currently in the eight.
"I think it's a testament to his durability, and the fact he's been able to mix it with senior players so early in his career is fantastic," he said.
