Swan wins second straight Copeland
Dane Swan has capped an outstanding AFL season by winning his second straight Copeland Trophy as Collingwood's best and fairest player for 2009.
The 25-year-old midfielder joins an elite group of Collingwood players to win back-to-back awards, including club champions Bob Rose, Murray Weideman, Len Thompson and Nathan Buckley.
Swan, who earned his first All-Australian guernsey in 2009, played all 25 matches and polled votes from the match committee in 17 of them to finish ahead of fellow 2009 All-Australian and club captain Nick Maxwell.
Swan earned 57 votes, nine more than Maxwell, while Heath Shaw polled 43 votes to finish third.
In other awards, 19-year-old Dayne Beams was named the best first-year player, while John Anthony won the Gordon Coventry award for being the club's leading goal kicker with 50 goals.
