Collingwood's Fasolo wins Rising Star vote
Collingwood small forward Alex Fasolo has won the AFL's round 22 Rising Star nomination.
Fasolo was consistent over four quarters for the Magpies during their win against Brisbane on Saturday night at the MCG, with 19 disposals and two goals.
The promising rookie has played nine AFL games since making his debut in the round 12 clash against Melbourne, where he gathered 15 disposals and kicked a goal.
In his last four matches Fasolo has averaged 16 disposals and kicked nine goals including five against Essendon in round 19, where he also had 18 touches and used the ball with 100 per cent efficiency.
Collingwood coach Mick Malthouse said Fasolo had made a valuable contribution to the side and had shown consistent development throughout the year.
"Alex has developed at a level that has now placed him in a strong position to stretch for the finals," he said.
"We know he has a natural talent that is for all to see but he has also developed strong defensive skills to fit in our team and has been a model of consistency since entering the side. I am delighted for him."
Recruited from East Fremantle, Collingwood selected Alex with its first pick, number 45 overall, in the 2010 AFL Draft when they rated him in their top 20.
The Attadale junior represented Western Australia in the 2010 AFL under-18 championships, averaging almost 20 disposals, with 67 per cent efficiency.
A nominee is chosen after every round of the home and away season, with one of these candidates to be chosen as the 2011 AFL Rising Star.
