Geary wins Rising Star nomination
St Kilda defender Jarryn Geary has won the round eight AFL Rising Star nomination.
Geary was impressive in his latest outing against Essendon on Sunday, gathering 19 disposals as the Saints continued their unbeaten start to the season.
The 20-year-old has played all eight matches this year, mainly across the half-back line and has averaged 18 possessions and booted five goals.
Last week against Collingwood the former rookie-listed player amassed a career-high 26 disposals and nine marks to be among St Kilda's best players.
Geary made his AFL debut in round one last year and played 10 matches for the season. He played the remainder of his football with Casey in the VFL, including the elimination and qualifying finals.
St Kilda coach Ross Lyon described Geary as a hard worker and a consistent performer.
"With continued hard work and dedication to all aspects of his game, we hope to see Jarryn's already promising development continue," Lyon said.
Geary is St Kilda's first Rising Star nominee since Sam Gilbert in round 16, 2007.
