Richmond's Martin gets Rising Star nod
Richmond teenager Dustin Martin has won the AFL's round 10 Rising Star nomination following his team's drought-breaking win over Port Adelaide.
Martin was rewarded for his performance in the midfield at AAMI Stadium on Saturday when he gathered 21 possessions, 11 clearances and four tackles in difficult conditions as the Tigers notched their first win in 2010.
His 11 clearances were the most of any player in the round.
The 18-year-old, who made his AFL debut in round one, has played nine matches this season and is averaging 20 possessions per week.
Richmond coach Damien Hardwick said Martin gave the club's fans something to look forward to.
"We couldn't have asked for more of Dustin in his first year so far," said Hardwick.
"His attack on the ball and his skills on both sides of his body were some of the reasons we wanted him at Richmond, and he has done everything we've asked of him.
"It's exciting for the fans to see players like Dustin coming through, and we're excited about him being part of Richmond's next successful era."
While he gets the round 10 nomination, Martin is ineligible to win the 2010 Rising Star Award after accepting a penalty for a level one forceful contact charge from round three.
