Banfield earns Rising Star nomination
Brisbane Lions teenager Todd Banfield has become the third player from WAFL side Swan Districts to earn an AFL Rising Star nomination this year.
Banfield, 19, collected the round six nomination after being one of the Lions' best players in Saturday's loss to Sydney, amassing 15 disposals and kicking a career-best three goals.
It brought his goal tally to nine in six matches this year since debuting in round one.
He joins other former Swan Districts players Chris Yarran (Carlton) and Nic Naitanui (West Coast) in being nominated for the 2010 Rising Star Award.
"Todd has the ability to turn up in contests," said Brisbane coach Michael Voss.
"Even when you think he's not in the contest, he has that turn of speed to get himself back involved.
"The pressure he has been able to provide inside our forward 50 has been enormous.
"Todd has been very valuable for us. He had a quiet game last week, but has bounced back really well. For a young player to do that - it's a real credit to him."
