Menzel the round 13 Rising Star nominee
A career-high four-goal haul against St Kilda has earned Geelong forward Daniel Menzel the round 13 nomination for the AFL Rising Star award.
The 19-year-old Menzel amassed 15 possessions, six marks and four goals in the unbeaten Cats' 28-point win over the Saints at the MCG last Saturday.
He is Geelong's third most prolific forward this year with 16 goals.
"Obviously Daniel has been a tremendous and exciting talent for us in the forward line this year but it has also been the jobs he's done in the midfield and down back that really shows his maturity as a player," said Geelong coach Chris Scott.
"It's a credit to Daniel with the work he put in over the pre-season to now consistently demand a spot in the 22 each week."
Menzel was recruited by Geelong from SANFL club Central District with pick 17 in the 2009 national draft.
He is the Cats' second Rising Star nominee this year, following Mitch Duncan in round three.
