McKinley wins AFL Rising Star nomination
West Coast forward Ben McKinley has won this week's AFL Rising Star nomination after his five-goal haul against Port Adelaide.
The 21-year-old has now kicked 12 goals in three games.
McKinley played one game for West Coast last season after the Eagles recruited him with the 29th pick in the 2005 national draft.
McKinley returned to the senior side for the round-three Western Derby against Fremantle and kicked three goals and then kicked another four in the round-four loss to Sydney.
He was best for the Eagles on Sunday as they kicked the last seven goals of the match to lose by 24 points.
"The opportunity in the forward line was there for players to compete for and Ben really grabbed that chance with two hands," said Eagles coach John Worsfold.
"He has worked hard at his footy over the last couple of years and this nomination is just reward for his determination and commitment."
McKinley was Victorian Metro's most valuable player and made the All-Australian team after the 2005 under-18 national championships.
