Hurley wins Rising Star nomination
Essendon's Michael Hurley is the AFL Rising Star nominee for round 18 after the defender was in brilliant form in his side's 33-point win against St Kilda.
The 20-year-old was among Essendon's best players as he gathered 18 kicks and 12 handballs plus 13 marks in the round-17 clash.
Essendon coach Matthew Knights said on Tuesday Hurley had shown steady improvement in 2010.
"It has been really pleasing for Michael to be able to gather experience in both the forward line and backline this season and to see him really grow in those roles," Knights said.
"We expect this experience to hold him in good stead as a player and we believe his flexibility will be of assistance to the team in the future."
Hurley made his debut in round one 2009 and has played 25 matches including 15 this season, kicking 12 goals this year.
The Macleod Football Club product was Essendon's first selection (fifth overall) at the 2008 Draft.
He's the second Essendon player to be nominated following Jake Melksham in round eight.
Hurley joins a select group of players who have been nominated for the AFL Rising Star twice, after his nomination in Round 20 2009 after another Essendon victory against St Kilda.
