Roberts' hat-trick sends Wigan clear
Former Sydney Roosters winger Amos Roberts scored a hat-trick as Wigan won 36-22 at Castleford on Sunday to take the outright lead at the top of the Super League table.
Michael Maguire's men, who have now won six of their seven matches since he arrived from Melbourne Storm, have 12 points at the top with five other teams on ten points.
Ex-Canterbury full-back Cameron Phelps and Roberts gave Wigan a dream start with early tries before England centre Michael Shenton scored twice for the Tigers.
In-form winger Pat Richards, once of Wests, then bagged his tenth try of the season as Wigan lead 14-12 at the break.
But Maguire's side upped the tempo in the second period with Roberts completing his treble and Joel Tomkins also grabbing a double before Michael Wainwright and Michael Cooper added consolations.
In the day's other match, Daryl Millard set Wakefield on their way to a comprehensive 36-6 win over Salford.
Fellow NRL recruits Tevita Leo-Latu and Glenn Morrison also scored in the opening half as the Wildcats raced into a 28-0 lead.
Sam Obst and Damien Blanch added further scores in the second-half to complete the impressive win.
England starlet Kyle Eastmond scored 16 points as St Helens beat Warrington 28-16 to continue the Wolves' woeful record at Knowsley Road.
The rookie halfback landed six goals and a fine try as Mick Potter's men blitzed the visitors early-on.
They led 20-4 after 52 minutes before ex-Storm star Matt King, Ben Harrison and Chris Hicks closed the gap.
But Ade Gardner's second try of the night and another goal from Eastmond sealed the win for improving Saints.
Winger Leroy Cudjoe stole the show in Huddersfield's 32-18 win at injury-hit Harlequins.
Cudjoe bagged a hat-trick with fit-again Brett Hodgson also landing four goals.
Hooker Chad Randall scored one of Quins three tries but they remain bottom of the table.
Jordan Tansey scored two tries as Hull beat Bradford Bulls 18-6 at the KC Stadium.
Lee Radford also crossed for the home side with second-rower Danny Tickle converting all three.
Halfback Michael Dobson recovered from a nightmare start to play a leading role in Hull KR's 17-10 win at struggling champions Leeds - Rovers first at Headingley for 25 years.
Dobson's first minute kick was charged down by Jamie Jones-Buchanan to score but tries from Liam Colbon, Peter Fox and Shaun Briscoe turned the game on its head.
Veteran centre Keith Senior reduced the arrears to 16-10 but Dobson's late drop goal completed the win.
Former Wales and British Lions rugby union skipper Gareth Thomas was given a baptism of fire in Crusaders' 14-6 win over Catalans Dragons.
The former Wales star, who won 100 caps for his country, limped off after 30 minutes following a series of heavy knocks.
But Brian Noble's men shrugged off the loss of the new-boy to take the points with tries from Jason Chan and Tony Martin as well as three goals from Michael Witt.
