Roosters release Roberts to join Wigan
Sydney Roosters winger Amos Roberts has been released from the final year of his contract to take up a lucrative four-year deal with English Super League club Wigan.
The release of Roberts eases some of the salary cap pressure at the Bondi Junction club, and could also put an end to rumours the club was looking to offload former Test fullback Anthony Minichiello.
Minichiello has one year remaining on his deal, but has been linked with a move to the French rugby union competition.
The four-year deal will come as welcome relief to Roberts who was looking for some financial security following a nomadic NRL career which included stints at St George Illawarra, Penrith and the Roosters.
Roberts, who played four games for Country Origin, had a remarkable try-scoring strike rate during his nine-year with 106 four-pointers in 179 top grade games.
