Kearney stars as Bulls thump Giants in SL
Former South Sydney rugby league player Brett Kearney scored a stunning try as Bradford Bulls produced their best performance of the English season so far to crush Huddersfield Giants 36-0 on Sunday.
Kearney rounded off a near-perfect display from the 2005 Super League champions when he touched down in the corner after a surging run to seal a comprehensive victory that boosted the Bulls' top-eight hopes.
Ben Jeffries, formerly of the Wests Tigers, also crossed the line, while ex-New Zealand Warrior Patrick Ah Van scored a try and kicked eight points as the Bulls ran in six unanswered tries.
Also on Sunday, ex-Wests Tiger Ben Galea led the fightback as Hull KR secured a 21-8 victory over Salford City Reds.
Ex-Canberra Raider Michael Dobson also kicked nine points as Rovers bounced back from 8-0 down at the break to keep their top-eight bid well and truly alive.
Elsewhere, Wigan held on to their slender one-point lead at the head of the Super League table, with former Wests Tigers star Pat Richards contributing 20 points in a 48-6 destruction of Wakefield.
Richards scored one of the Warriors' eight tries and Gareth Hock scoring his first ever hat-trick in his first start since his two-year drugs ban.
Sam Tomkins scored twice, with Samoan international George Carmont also crossing.
Carmont's score -- his 54th in a Wigan shirt -- was a timely one for the former Newcastle Knights star who announced earlier this week that he will stay with the Warriors for a further year.
Josh Griffin scored the Wildcats' only try as they endured a torrid time at the hands of the 2010 champions to remain second bottom.
St Helens lead the chasing pack behind Wigan and second placed Warrington, with Jamie Foster the undisputed star of their show as he scored a hat-trick of tries and kicked eight goals as his side beat Catalan Dragons 40-18.
Foster's tally of 28 points was boosted by a double from former Auckland Warriors wing Francis Meli, while Michael Shenton recorded Saints' sixth try.
Steve Menzies scored twice as the Dragons fought in vain, former St George wing Clint Greenshields and Frederic Vaccari also crossing for the French outfit.
Leeds bounced back from their emphatic defeat against Catalans last week to ease to a 20-0 win over Hull.
Ryan Hall, Danny Maguire and Ben Jones-Bishop scored the tries with Kevin Sinfield kicking four goals.
Meanwhile, Joel Monaghan grabbed his 16th try of the season -- one of nine for Warrington, who remain hot on the heels of Wigan after thrashing Harlequins for the second time this season.
Former Canberra Raider Monaghan scored one and made another shortly after the break to put paid to any hopes of a Harlequins comeback as Chris Bridge ran in four tries in total in a thumping 54-24 win.
One-time Penrith Panther Nick Youngquest was among the scorers for Castleford Tigers who had to rely on a last-gasp try from Rob Parker to deny struggling Crusaders a much-needed win.
Papua New Guinea's Jason Chan was among the first-half try-scorers for Crusaders, who took a 14-6 lead at the break before Youngquest led the fightback for the Tigers with a late penalty from ex-Queensland fullback Clinton Schifcofske to seal a 26-20 win and leave the Welsh side rooted to the foot of the table.
