Molik advances to second round
Alicia Molik is the first Australian woman through to the second round of Wimbledon after easily disposing of Melinda Czink of Hungary 6-1 6-4.
Molik, the 27th seed, took command the moment she stepped on the court and wrapped up the match against the world No.80 in just 49 minutes.
The Melburnian will play American Teryn Ashley in the second round after she ousted Tina Pisnik of Slovakia 2-6 6-1 7-5.
Former Australian Jelena Dokic, who now represents Serbia and Montenegro, had her worst performance at Wimbledon when she lost her opening round match to Gisela Dulko of Argentina 3-6 3-6.
The former Wimbledon semi-finalist and 23rd seed struggled throughout the match and never seriously challenged world No.59 Dulko.
Dokic's previous worst performance was a third round exit last year.
Australians Nicole Pratt and Samantha Stosur also suffered first round losses.
Pratt was defeated in straight sets by little-known British wildcard Anne Keothavong while Stosur put up a fight against 12th seed Vera Zvonereva before going down 6-4 6-4.
Christina Wheeler, ranked 242 in the world, faces world No.93 Tatiana Perebiynis on Wednesday after qualifying for the main draw.
