Hewitt, Philippoussis through
Lleyton Hewitt ended Goran Ivanisevic's career while Mark Philippoussis continued to revive his as both Australians recorded impressive wins at Wimbledon.
Hewitt beat Ivanisevic 6-2 6-3 6-4 in their third round match to send the 2001 champion into retirement and Philippoussis came from a set down to beat Dutchman Martin Verkerk in the second round.
But Australia's sole remaining woman in the draw, Alicia Molik, lost her second round match to Thailand's Tamarine Tanasugarn 6-2 6-4.
The injury-plagued Ivanisevic, 32, has hardly played since winning the Wimbledon title three years ago and struggled with his left shoulder after backing up following a five set win over Filippo Volandri.
He was given a wildcard into Wimbledon so he could come back to his favourite tournament to say farewell before retiring and received a standing ovation as he left Centre Court for the last time.
Seventh seed and 2002 champion Hewitt, however, continues his impressive progress and will play Spain's Carlos Moya in the fourth round on Monday.
Hewitt is yet to drop serve or a set for the tournament and is looking close to his 2002 form.
"I just felt like I was seeing the ball really well right from the start of the match," Hewitt said.
"I knew right from the start that it was going to be important to hold my service games as easily as possible.
"I felt like I served really well out there today.
