Molik too good for Cohen-Aloro
Australian No.1 Alicia Molik continued her hot run of form to scorch into the second round of the US Open.
Molik trounced Frenchwoman Stephanie Cohen-Aloro 6-0 6-2 in just 53 minutes on day one of the last grand slam of the year at Flushing Meadows.
Molik is seeded 17th in the women's event after rising to a career-high world No.18 following her second tournament success earlier this month in Stockholm and her bronze-medal performance at the Athens Olympics.
The 23-year-old has now won 11 of her last 12 matches, her only defeat coming at the hands of world No.2 Amelie Mauresmo in the semi-finals in Athens.
The in-form South Australian was in another class to the 113th-ranked Cohen-Aloro, sending down eight aces in seven service games and unleashing 29 winners on her hapless opponent.
Molik will play either Slovak Daniela Hantuchova or French lucky loser Camille Pinn in the second round.
