Bring on Venus: Molik
Venus Williams calls it destiny, the biggest match of the year. Alicia Molik says it's a huge opportunity, possibly the biggest of her career.
Presenting Molik versus Williams. Australian Open fourth round on Monday.
The prize: a quarter-final berth at the first grand slam of 2005 and, for Molik, a place in the world's top 10.
"Bring it on," said Molik after crushing Russian Tatiana Panova 6-3 6-2 at Melbourne Park.
"I feel ready, I feel relaxed, I feel that I can still step it up a couple gears.
"I'm really looking forward to it. I feel my game is in perfect shape."
And so she should.
Molik is unbeaten this year, has dropped just one set in 11 matches, has won 22 of the last 23 times she has stepped on court and has lost only four times in five months.
The 10th-seeded Australian is on the hottest of hot streaks - and that is where she believes she has the edge over the former world No.1 and four-time grand slam champion.
"I've won a hell of a lot of matches the last six months. I've come off a tournament win in Sydney, I was undefeated in Perth," she said.
