Serna downs Molik in Budapest final
Australia's Alicia Molik claimed a set but lost the match to in-form Spaniard Magui Serna in the final of the $US110,000 ($A180,000) WTA tennis tournament in Budapest.
Serna, the 24-year-old second seed, rallied from a set down to overcome the third-seeded Australian 3-6, 7-5, 6-4.
It took the Spaniard two hours and 18 minutes to secure her third career title and second WTA title in a week.
Serna is on a ten-match winning streak after successfully defending her Estoril crown last weekend.
"I'm very tired after playing a lot of tennis in the past couple of weeks, but to win two titles in a row I'm obviously playing with a lot of confidence," Serna said.
"That definitely helped me today in the final."
The 22-year-old Molik, like Serna, was appearing in her second consecutive final, the first Australian woman to achieve this feat since Anne Minter won consecutive titles at Taipei and Singapore in 1987.
But Molik, who won her maiden WTA Tour singles title in Hobart last January and reached the Sarasota final two weeks ago, admitted she was outplayed by the girl from Las Palmas.
"I played my best today but Magui was just too good when it mattered most," Molik said.
"I've got to be happy with my week here, and more so the past few weeks.
