Molik wins second tournament in a week
Alicia Molik has won her second singles title in a week on Sunday, beating Dinara Safina 6-3, 6-4 in the final of the SEAT Open.
The second-seeded Australian, who won her first Tier I title in Zurich last Sunday by beating Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova in a three-set final, took her third title this year and fourth overall against the 18-year-old Safina.
"To win two tournaments in a row feels great," Molik said. "It's something I've never done before."
Molik, a bronze medalist at the Athens Olympics, broke the Russian in the eighth game before serving out the first set.
The 14th-ranked Australian got another break in the sixth game of the second set en route to her win that added to her titles in Zurich and Stockholm.
It was the first final for Safina since she won her second career title in 2003 at Palermo.
"She served really well and I didn't," the Russian said. "She put pressure on my second serve and I just couldn't fight back today."
