Stosur knocked out of German Open
Australia's Samantha Stosur was knocked out of the German Open after losing to world No.11 Anna Chakvetadze in the second round.
Stosur won the first set but the Russian ninth seed came home stronger winning 3-6 7-6 7-6 on a rain-interrupted second day of the tournament on Tuesday.
Chakvetadze will play Lucie Safarova of the Czech Republic in the next round.
Russian 10th seed Elena Dementieva, a former finalist at the US and French Opens, also dropped a set but rallied to beat Mara Santangelo of Italy 4-6 6-1 6-4.
Belgian world No.1 Justine Henin, winner earlier this week in Warsaw, is the top seed for the $US1.34 million ($A1.63 million), claycourt tournament.
Six other top 10 players are in the main draw, including defending champion Nadia Petrova of Russia.
