Stosur through to second round in Seoul
Australia's Samantha Stosur survived but two other seeded players weren't so lucky after the opening day of the Hansol Korea Open.
Eighth-seed Stosur won through to the second round after she eliminated local hope Cho Yoon-jeong 7-6 (7-1) 6-4.
Third seed Marlene Weingartner of Germany, runner-up at the Wismilak International two weeks ago, was easily beaten by Poland's Marta Domachowska 6-1 6-3, while Catalina Castano of Colombia overcame No.4 Mashona Washington of the US 5-7 6-4 6-4 at Olympic Park.
Wimbledon champion Maria Sharapova, a semifinalist last week in Beijing, was expected to play her first-round match against Emmanuelle Gagliardi of Switzerland.
In other results, Croat Silvija Talaja downed Italian Adriana Serra Zanetti 6-3 6-4, and another Croatian, Sandra Mamic, beat wild card Kim Jin-hee of South Korea 6-3 6-0.
