Stosur joins growing injury list

Queenslander Samantha Stosur's hopes of prolonging her giant killing start to 2004 ended abruptly when she joined the growing list of injury casualties during the second round of the Moorilla International.

Stosur, a semi-finalist last week on the Gold Coast, was never able to regain her rhythm after straining her left hamstring during a 4-6 6-3 6-1 loss to highly ranked Colombian Fabiola Zuluaga.

The niggling injury tested Stosur's mobility after flaring late in the first set, and ultimately tilted an absorbing duel the Colombian's way.

"I think I was in with a chance to do pretty well today but it wasn't to be," said Stosur.

"I felt (the injury) toward the end of the first set.

"I don't know what happened but it started getting very tight about then -- we'll get some physio done on it as soon as we can."

After breaking Zuluaga in the match's opening game, the 19-year-old Australian had initially held sway in a tight first set.

Another break arrived early in the second, but Stosur was soon in trouble after calling for medical attention with the score at 2-1.

With Stosur struggling to run down many of Zuluaga's ground strokes and committing regular errors, the tournament fourth seed rapidly assumed control.

The Colombian claimed five of six games to close out the second set before a mix of powerful serving and skilful cross court shots delivered a 4-0 lead in the third.
