Stosur sets up dream clash with Hingis
Australian tennis standard-bearer Samantha Stosur faces a dream showdown with former world No.1 Martina Hingis on Monday after reaching the fourth round of a grand slam for the first time.
Stosur beat Austrian Sybille Bammer 7-5 4-6 6-3 to set up a clash with Hingis, with the winner of that match facing a quarter-final against world No.2 Kim Clijsters.
Stosur is Australia's last remaining singles player, with the local men's hopes extinguished after Nathan Healey and Peter Luczak both lost their third round matches in four sets.
Healey was beaten by Russian fifth seed Nikolay Davydenko 6-2 5-7 6-4 7-5 in three hours, with the Australian showing plenty of courage despite the Russian outplaying him for much of the match.
Luczak lost 4-6 6-3 6-4 6-4 to German Tommy Haas.
With a continuation of the searing 40-plus on-court temperatures from Saturday predicted, women's top seed Lindsay Davenport and men's No.2 seed Andy Roddick will have to brave the heat in the day session.
Davenport plays former US Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova in a fourth round clash, while Roddick takes on Marcos Baghdatis from Cyprus and his army of fanatical Greek and Cypriot supporters.
In the clash of the glamour girls on centre court, fourth seed Maria Sharapova plays Serena Williams' conqueror Daniela Hantuchova, the 17th seed.
Other leading players in action include seventh seed Ivan Ljubicic against former champion Thomas Johansson, and fourth seed David Nalbandian against Spaniard Tommy Robredo, the 16th seed.
