Shinn suspended for Boxing Day incident
Rising star apprentice rider Blake Shinn was on Monday suspended for only the third time in his career in the aftermath of an incident at Caulfield on Sunday.
Shinn, 17, rode a double at Caulfield and another on Monday to start his ban as equal leader of the Melbourne jockeys' premiership on 28 with Damien Oliver and apprentice Nicholas Ryan.
He was suspended for 17 meetings, including six in the city, over his ride on Pink Fit in the Listed Lord States at Caulfield.
Shinn was found guilty of permitting Pink Fit to shift in and tighten Umdinger (Sally Wynne) onto the running rail in the final stages.
Although the interference occurred late it was quite severe.
Chief steward Des Gleeson said his panel took into account the fact that Shinn had been suspended only twice previously in over 1300 rides.
Shinn has already been engaged for several rides at Flemington on New Year's Day and his term of suspension will commence at midnight on January 1 and finish at midnight on the 16th.
Shinn, who outrode his claim in town several months ago, said he would not appeal the decision.
