McKenzie wins Rising Star nomination
Teenager Trent McKenzie has become the fourth Gold Coast player to earn an AFL Rising Star nomination in their debut season.
Playing on the wing and in the midfield, 19-year-old McKenzie gathered 21 possessions and eight marks as the Suns claimed their third win of the season, beating Richmond in Cairns on Saturday.
He follows teammates Brandon Matera, Zac Smith and David Swallow as a Rising Star nominee.
"Trent is a beauty. He has the power, speed and now is demonstrating a work rate to compete consistently at an AFL level," said Suns coach Guy McKenna.
"He has demonstrated on a number of occasions this year that he is an exceptional kick and for a player so early into his AFL career to have the crowd watch with anticipation whenever he gets the ball is quiet remarkable."
