Wollongong Hawks down Slingers 93-72
Wollongong Hawks cast aside a tumultuous week to end a six game NBL losing streak by beating last placed Singapore 93-72 in Wollongong on Wednesday.
Battered by a 33-point home loss to Gold Coast last Friday and Puerto Rican import Angelo Reyes feuding publicly with team mates and the coaching staff, the Hawks rallied for a crucial win.
The enigmatic Reyes, signed to replace sacked American James Peters, was told to improve his attitude by Hawks coach Eric Cooks and responded with a strong, inspiring game.
The Puerto Rican international finished with 15 points and eight rebounds in 24 solid minutes.
Hawks playmaker Kavossy Franklin starred with a game high 23 points plus five assists while skipper Mat Campbell had 17 and Cameron Tragardh 14 points.
Best for the Slingers - who shot at just 40.8 percent - was guard Mike Helms with 20 points and Ben Knight with 16 points plus 11 rebounds.
Wollongong improved to 4-11 while the Slingers slumped to 3-15 in their ninth straight road loss.
Singapore led 41-40 at halftime but Campbell started the third term with eight points and a steal as Wollongong went on a 12-0 run to lead 52-40.
Wollongong never gave up their advantage and with Franklin the back court general, won the final term 24-15 for an impressive 21 point win.
