Hawks take revenge
The Wollongong Hawks erased all memories of their crushing round ten loss to Adelaide with a devastating 121-75 blow-out over the 36ers at the Sandpit.
It was a sweet victory for the Hawks following their surrender a month earlier after they were leading that game by 17 points.
The loss left deep scars on Wollongong and they entered the clash focused on some retribution.
Their payback was swift and total, leaving the 36ers humiliated and with some new unwanted contributions for their record books.
The game was a contest for only the first nine minutes as Wollongong held an 18-16 lead, but when they closed the quarter on an 8-0 run, their unstoppable roll had started.
The Hawks extended that run to 15-0 with the first seven points of the second quarter, and Adelaide was unable to stop the juggernaut as Wollongong powered to a 64-41 halftime lead.
With the bitter memories still strong, Wollongong's focus at the break centred on their intensity and their execution in the third quarter was superb.
They held Adelaide to a record-equalling low of 11 points in the third, pushing the Hawks out to an insurmountable 87-52 lead.
Even as the Hawks emptied their bench in the final quarter, the misery continued for the 36ers as the points continued to mount.
With Wollongong putting 11 players on the scoresheet, the final 46-point margin was Adelaide's biggest loss in franchise history, and the Hawks largest win in theirs.
