Crocs teeter on finals elimination
The Wollongong Hawks have left the Townsville Crocodiles on the brink of departure from the playoffs after taking out their National Basketball League finals series with a thrilling win in game two at the Swamp.
The Hawks reeled in a sixteen point three-quarter time deficit to triumph 102-101.
The visitors had won the first game in the best of three series 97-87 in Wollongong on Saturday.
Defensive specialist Mat Campbell was the main destroyer in the final term, hitting five three-pointers as the visitors swamped the Crocs with a barrage of long bombs.
But it was Damon Lowery who delivered the killer blow, putting Wollongong in front with just 5.2 seconds left on the clock.
The Hawks point guard said he thrived on the pressure of playing in front of a frenzied crowd.
"I like that stage, and this is the biggest rush you can get," Lowery said.
Hawks Coach Brendan Joyce said he always confident his team could launch a comeback.
"We felt we could run home over them after our three games against them earlier this year, Joyce said.
Crocs Coach Ian Stacker and his team now face a nervous wait on results from other series.
