Young Crow Andy Otten injures knee
Adelaide Crows defender Andy Otten has had his 2010 AFL season wrecked before it even started with a training injury on Thursday requiring a full knee reconstruction.
Otten was hurt during a routine drill with his left knee collapsing as he went to change direction and kick.
A visit to a specialist later confirmed he had ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament.
Crows head doctor Andrew Potter said Otten would have a normal reconstruction, followed by 12 months of rehabilitation.
The injury is a significant blow to Adelaide after the 20-year-old played every game this year and finished runner-up in the AFL's Rising Star award.
In his second season with the Crows, Otten also won Adelaide's emerging talent award after being taken at pick 27 in the 2007 AFL national draft.
He debuted for Adelaide in round 12 in 2008 and played just one more game that year.
This year he earned a secure spot in the Crows line-up, playing a running role across half-back.
Otten won his Rising Star nomination in round nine for his 23-possession performance against Carlton.
He went on to finish second in the competition behind Brisbane's Daniel Rich.
