Christensen earns Rising Star nomination
Geelong youngster Allen Christensen has received the AFL Rising Star nomination for round 18 after a strong performance in the Cats' 62-point win over Richmond.
Christensen tallied 26 possessions, six tackles, five marks and two goals in Geelong's comfortable victory over the Tigers.
The 20-year-old, selected with pick 40 in the 2009 draft, made his debut in round two and has played 11 matches - spending time in the midfield and forward line.
Over the past five weeks he has averaged 20 possessions and kicked eight goals.
Christensen is the third Geelong player to be nominated for the award this year, joining Mitch Duncan (round three) and Daniel Menzel (round 13).
Geelong coach Chris Scott said Christensen had been in excellent form over the past four weeks.
"Allen has shown so far this year that he has a great AFL career ahead of him," Scott said.
"We have asked him to perform a role week in week out and to his credit he has shown great maturity and poise in doing what is asked of him.
"His contribution to the side has been outstanding and has earned him a lot of respect."
In 2010, Christensen played 16 games for Geelong's VFL side and finished fourth in the best and fairest.
