Schulz steps up again at the Gabba
Port Adelaide's big marking forward Jay Schulz had another bitter-sweet moment against Brisbane after he again kicked a bag of goals in a losing side at the Gabba on Sunday.
Schulz slotted an equal career-high seven majors in a game the Power dominated for long periods yet lost by 11 points.
The 26-year-old has an affinity with the Gabba.
He kicked six goals against Brisbane as Richmond's key forward in 2004, a performance which earned him a Rising Star nomination.
However, victory has eluded Schulz and his teammates on both occasions which has taken the gloss of two very personal satisfying achievements.
"It's a reasonably happy hunting ground for me but unfortunately, in both those games we lost," Schulz said.
"I'd rather play my role for the day than me kick a bag and lose.
"It's nice to play but at the end of the day it still stings very harshly that we lost."
It's also the second seven-goal haul for Schulz.
He kicked seven majors in round 13 last year on his way to being the club's leading goalkicker.
A knee injury has restricted Schulz to nine appearances this season and yet he still leads the Power's goal scoring with 22.
He kicked two goals in the opening term against Brisbane, one in the second quarter and then four in the third term when the Power built up a 20-point lead.
He missed two tough set shots in the final term to finish one short of former skipper Warren Tredrea's club record of eight goals in a match.
"My fitness is finally back where it should be and I was lucky today to get some good delivery," Schulz said.
"I didn't know that (the record was eight goals).
"Maybe it's best I didn't know."
