Pratt continues Australian woes in Paris
Australia's woes continued at the French Open with Nicole Pratt losing in the second round and Wayne Arthurs repeating his first round singles loss with an immediate exit in the doubles.
Pratt was beaten 6-2 6-2 by Russian ninth seed Elena Dementieva, leaving Lleyton Hewitt as the only Australian still in the tournament.
Hewitt faces a tricky second round match against Austrian clay-courter Jurgen Melzer, whom he beat in the quarterfinals at the Hamburg Masters two weeks ago.
Pratt, 30 started well against her practice partner and occasional doubles team-mate, holding her serve and then breaking early in the first set to go 2-1 up but was immediately broken back by the world No.10.
The world No.44 then squandered all hope of staying in the match when she lost the next 10 games to drift off to 5-0 in the second set.
She staged a mini-fightback when she finally held serve and broke the Russian to go to 5-2 but lost her next service game to bow out of the tournament.
After her 6-4 6-2 first round win over Tina Pisnik, the Queenslander felt confident.
"I really felt like I had a good shot today, I played a really solid first round match," Pratt said.
"But she just played too good on the day and there wasn't a lot I could do.
"I felt like I was doing the right thing out there, she's certainly played really well."
