Hawthorn players accused of rape
Another football club has become embroiled in rape allegations with four Hawthorn players accused of an attack on a Los Angeles woman while holidaying in Hawaii in 1999, The Australian reported.
The Australian Federal Police and the AFL club both confirmed to the newspaper that they had been contacted by the Honolulu Police Department over the allegations in October 1999.
The four players named in the complaint had been in Hawaii on an end of season trip which also involved the wedding of a fifth team-mate, the newspaper said.
An AFP spokeswoman declined to comment further as it was not the lead agency in the investigation.
A Hawthorn statement said the club had assisted fully with all inquiries.
Two members of AFL club St Kilda are currently being investigated for an alleged rape in Melbourne and last week NSW police announced they had insufficient evidence to charge members of NRL club The Bulldogs in relation to an alleged attack on a woman at Coffs Harbour.
