Razorbacks dump Wollongong 107-91
The West Sydney Razorbacks launched one of the greatest finals long-range aerial assaults to crush Wollongong 107-91 at The Sandpit.
The Razorbacks moved to within one win of the NBL grand final, achieved first through tactics, then a deadly aim from outside.
West Sydney finished with better shooting statistics from outside the three-point arch than overall, hitting a game winning 60 per cent from deep.
The clash promised to be a tight tussle after a see-sawing first quarter had the Razorbacks up by a point, 31-30 at the end, but the signs were already evident of what was to come as they hit six of seven threes.
The first quarter promise quickly evaporated in the second quarter as the Razorbacks ruthlessly targeted Wollongong's centre Axel Dench.
Russell Hinder started the carnage with a quickfire four points, then handed the job to bench centre David Pennisi, who abused Dench with nine points.
Blessed with the extra room created as the defence moved to help, the scoreline quickly blew out as West Sydney went from strength to strength.
"I think you're going to trouble any team if you're going to shoot 60 per cent from the three," West Sydney coach Gordie McLeod said.
"It really doesn't surprise me, because I feel we've been on the edge of doing that for quite a while.
"We certainly have the players that are capable of doing what we did."
