Trahair powers Razorbacks into NBL semis
West Sydney guard Aaron Trahair celebrated 300 NBL games with an inspired performance to help sink former club Cairns 110-88 and steer the Razorbacks into the semi-finals.
Trahair scored a game high and personal season best 31 points, over twice his season average, as the Razorbacks booked a three-game semi-final showdown with Wollongong.
The 28-year-old guard, who spent two seasons with Cairns, one of his four NBL clubs scored the first four points of the game and made 12 of his 19 field goals.
West Sydney bounced back from a 10-point deficit in the second quarter to take control in the second half.
Cairns, playing in its first finals campaign, led 35-25 with just under 5 minutes of the second quarter remaining, but couldn't sustain its momentum as the Razorbacks lifted their defensive intensity and found their rhythm after a shaky start.
The Razorbacks led 20-18 46-41 and 76-68 at the three breaks, but blew the Taipans away in the final quarter.
Persistent rain through the day kept the crowd down to a 1572 as West Sydney stretched its perfect all-time home finals record to six games.
Trahair was well supported by Razorbacks captain Sam Mackinnon who scored 28 points and John Rillie 22.
Forward Simon Dwight was also a tower of strength for West Sydney, accumulating 11 points, 12 rebounds, 9 assists and 6 blocks.
Cairns couldn't match with West Sydney offensively, shooting just 36% to the Pigs' 51%.
