Tigers skin the Pigs
The Melbourne Tigers severely dented West Sydney's chances of qualifying for the NBL finals with a 109-93 win.
The Tigers set up the win with a 19-0 run in the final three minutes 30 seconds of the third quarter.
Melbourne's storming finish to the third quarter was unexpected, with the teams trading baskets for much of the night.
With Melbourne holding a 65-62 lead, a Lanard Copeland three-point basket started an avalanche of scoring that West Sydney could not stop.
Mark Bradtke, Dave Thomas and Darryl McDonald joined Copeland during the scoring blitz, leaving the Razorbacks stunned and trailing 84-62 at the last change.
West Sydney attempted to bridge the gap in the final quarter with Aaron Trahair and Sam MacKinnon connecting from long range, but the Razorbacks never threatened to overhaul the Tigers.
Bradtke led Melbourne with 25 points and 13 rebounds and Thomas added 23 points and eight boards.
Simon Dwight was best for the Razorbacks with 23 points and Trahair contributed 20.
Melbourne coach Lindsay Gaze felt his team's intensity was the key to the win.
"We kept the pressure on them," Gaze said.
