The Perth Wildcats have consolidated a top four spot on the NBL ladder after a nail-biting 107-100 victory over West Sydney in Darwin.

The Razorbacks beat the Wildcats earlier this season but the Western Australian club responded at Marrara Stadium in a crucial triumph as the playoffs approach.

Shawn Redhage (24 points) and Paul Rogers (20) led the way for Perth, while import guard Darnell Hinson paced the Razorbacks with 16 points.

The game got off to a slow start, marred by some poor West Sydney shooting.

Skipper Rogers was prominent for Perth early, scoring 10 first-quarter points to shrug off talk of recent poor form.

The bumps and knocks in the physical game continued up until halftime, with West Sydney scoring 17 points within the first four minutes of the second quarter to take control.

At the main break, the visiting team held a surprising 52-42 advantage on the back of strong offensive play from Hinson.

But the Wildcats made a solid start to the second half, hitting consecutive three-pointers early in the third term to fight their way back into the contest.

Both teams appeared sluggish in the steamy conditions and went into the final quarter locked at 79-79.

The teams continued to trade baskets until the dying minutes when Perth's experience proved decisive.

A dunk from forward Alex Loughton sealed the outcome for Perth as they try to hang onto fourth position.

The Wildcats have improved their record to 16-12 with two games remaining in the regular season, ahead of three teams on 15-12 - Townsville, the Gold Coast and New Zealand.
