Kings facing a royal rumble
A team with the three best shooters in the league and enjoying its best defensive performance stands between Sydney and its first NBL championship.
The Kings reached their inaugural decider courtesy of a 2-1 semi-final win over Townsville and now faces Perth to decide the 2003 champion.
The Wildcats charged into the grand final with a 2-0 sweep of Wollongong.
With game one in Sydney on Thursday, Perth coach Alan Black has declared his Wildcats are ready after playing the best defence he has ever seen against Wollongong.
For a former Boomers assistant and championship-winning coach, it's a big statement.
"(It's) not even close. That's the best we've played defence," Black said.
"Since I've been coaching, that's been the best effort defensively that I can remember given the offensive talent of the opposition."
Adding to Sydney's woes, Perth's Stephen Black (44.6 per cent), James Harvey (43.9) and Ricky Grace (43.6) were the league's best three-point shooters during the regular season.
It looms as a tough ask for a Sydney team contesting its first championship series.
Did we mention Perth is also the league's best home performer?
