Wildcats down Pirates
After another early scare, the Perth Wildcats beat the Hunter Pirates 106-93 in the first National Basketball League match played in the West Australian mining town of Kalgoorlie on Monday night.
Fresh from their third-biggest comeback against the Pirates on Saturday, the Cats again started sluggishly but showed grit to eventually wear down the visitors who have yet to record a win away from Newcastle.
The game was marred early due to a high error rate from both teams and a poor shooting percentage of just 41 per cent by the Wildcats.
Matt Shanahan and Kevin Brooks gave the Cats much concern as the Pirates led 47-42 at halftime.
But Rashaad Tucker kept the home side in the match with his fifth triple-double effort this season.
The lead was traded several times before the teams went into the final break locked at 77-77 and the Cats lifted in the last quarter to lock up sixth spot on the NBL ladder.
Michael Burston and Tucker led the home side with 19 points each while top scorer for the Pirates was Brooks with 18.
