Victoria wraps up 215-run win over SA
Victorian paceman Gerard Denton has proved irresistible at both ends of South Australia's innings to hand the visitors a 215-run Pura Cup victory with only nine deliveries to spare in the Pura Cup match at Adelaide Oval.
Denton, with a career-best 6-31, claimed three of the first four Redbacks batsmen in two spells either side of lunch.
He then returned to cut through the tail in the day's dying minutes with the second new ball, after Mark Cosgrove (52 not out) and Jason Gillespie (16) had taken the Redbacks to the brink of safety with a stubborn two-hour defence.
SA slumped to 6-84 prior to the tea break, having been punctured by Denton, Cameron White (2-26) and Shane Warne (1-42), and they slid again in the final half hour, losing 4-4 in 44 balls as Denton dismissed last man Shaun Tait with a slower ball.
Victoria set its target inside the first half hour of the day after Nick Jewell (95) was bowled by Lehmann (1-24), and wrist spinner Cullen Bailey (4-117) claimed Jon Moss.
Redbacks openers Shane Deitz and Matthew Elliott ran off the field to prepare for the chase, but Deitz returned for less than two overs, unwisely padding up to Denton's inswinger.
Elliott was out when he failed to cover a Denton delivery that kept low for another lbw.
Shane Warne's (1-37) first over to Cosgrove brought an appeal almost every ball, he survived but it was Borgas who departed.
Bewitched by expansive turn out of the footmarks, he offered a simple catch to White at slip.
Callum Ferguson was soon lbw to Denton and Lehmann managed 18 before he was taken in close by Lloyd Mash.
Mash and White colluded for another victim - Graham Manou squeezing feebly to short leg - to leave the Redbacks in dire trouble with a session remaining.
White strangely elected to opt for pace from both ends after tea, and the spin breather appeared to ease Gillespie and Cosgrove into a solid defensive mindset.
By the time Warne and White resumed, the batsmen were in, and there were remarkably few close calls as the match entered its final hour.
Eventually Gillespie was pinned in front of his stumps by partnership-breaker Moss (1-0).
That set the scene for Denton, and he obliged by having Bailey taken at third slip, Paul Rofe gloving to the wicketkeeper and Tait nervously flicking to leg slip Jewell, all in seven balls.
