Tassie beats Victoria in Pura Cup clash
The Victorians didn't see Ben Hilfenhaus coming.
The Tigers' newcomer joined teammate Adam Griffith in bagging four wickets on Saturday as the home side toppled Victoria for 167 on the second day of their Pura Cup match at Bellerive Oval.
Forced to follow on after the Tigers were bowled out for 347 in the morning, the visitors were 0-7 in their second innings at the close.
It was a dream day for 22-year-old bricklayer Hilfenhaus, who returned rather less complimentary match figures of 1-126 in his first Pura Cup outing against Queensland.
The right-arm quick finished with 4-59 with the more experienced Griffith bagging 4-50.
"Obviously tomorrow's a fairly big day for us to try and roll them again, prove it wasn't a fluke," Hilfenhaus said.
Tasmania was chasing 450 after resuming at 5-299 but a fierce assault from Victorian pacemen Michael Lewis (4-73) and Gerard Denton (3-80) saw the home side have to settle for substantially less.
But it proved more than enough as the Tigers struck quickly in response.
Jason Arnberger was at the crease for just six minutes and three balls when Griffith bowled him for a duck.
Brad Hodge (1) - who scored centuries in each of the final three Pura Cup matches last season - was then caught at third slip by Scott Kremerskothen off Griffith.
