SA ready to batter Tigers
South Australia was aiming to bat Tasmania out of their Pura Cup match in the second day of play at Adelaide Oval, paceman Mark Cleary said.
SA was set to resume at 1-25, in reply to Tasmania's 207 all out, and Cleary, who took 4-41, said the Redbacks had the chance to take complete control of the game.
"That sets us up very well in this match, it's a good position to drive the game for the rest of the three innings left," Cleary said of bowling the Tigers out cheaply on what he regarded as a decent batting pitch.
"It's definitely better to be in our position, I would have thought."
He said the Redbacks wanted to post a huge first innings score, then force Tasmania to bat last.
"It's always better just to bat once and get a big lead and leave a day-and-a-half to bowl them out," he said.
"It's always pretty hard to bat again on the fourth day here at the Adelaide Oval."
Opener Shane Deitz was on 12 not out, after opening partner David Fitzgerald fell for 11 on the final ball of play.
The pair's extremely cautious opening stand of 25 took 21.2 overs, but Cleary said it had been a team aim to show some batting resolve after giving away their wickets too easily in recent games.
"It's a bit different to what we've been doing, because everyone's been getting themselves out in the first half of the season," he said.
