Tigers rampage in Pura Cup match
Paceman Gerard Denton led Tasmania on a record-breaking rampage against South Australia before his team's batsmen took control on a dream day two for the Tigers in their Pura Cup cricket match at Adelaide Oval.
At stumps, Tasmania was 3-175 in its second innings, holding an overall lead of 270 after leading by 95 on the first innings.
Michael Dighton was out on the last ball of the day, LBW to part-time medium pacer Mark Cosgrove for 45 - the highest score of the match so far - with Shane Watson unbeaten on 43.
The pair put on a 90-run stand, the highest partnership so far of what has been a surprisingly low-scoring match on what appeared to be a decent batting pitch.
The comfortable manner in which Dighton and Watson scored starkly showed how poorly SA batted in its paltry first innings total of 112, its lowest score ever in a first-class match against Tasmania.
SA had looked to clearly have the upper hand entering day two, after dismissing Tasmania for 207 on day one.
But it crashed from 4-105 early in the second session, to lose its last six wickets for seven runs in a 10-over debacle.
Redbacks skipper Darren Lehmann said the pitch had nothing to do with the batting disaster and was far better than the first innings scores indicated.
"It's a good wicket, it's definitely not a 207 and 112 wicket, more like it is now, 3-175, so there's been some good bowling in the first innings from both sides and some poor batting," Lehmann said.
"We batted badly, we lost 6-7, which is pretty disappointing.
