Hussey to lead Victoria
Batsman David Hussey has mixed feelings about standing in as skipper for the depleted Bushrangers team for the next two games.
Hussey, 28, was a surprise selection ahead of all-rounder Jonathan Moss for Saturday's ING Cup match against South Australia and the Pura Cup game against New South Wales next Tuesday.
He will lead the side in the absence of Shane Warne who has been told to rest his back ahead of the Test series against South Africa, and Cameron White, who is in New Zealand for the three-match Chappell-Hadlee series.
While buoyed by the new role, Hussey said the side would desperately miss Warne.
"It's a pleasant surprise and I'm looking forward to the job on Saturday and Tuesday but I was sort of hoping Warney would be back and he could take over the reins," Hussey said.
"Unfortunately he's been rested and it gives me an opportunity.
"It is disappointing because you do want to play with the best and he's the best in the world and he loves Victorian cricket."
Hussey has had only brief periods at the helm in the past.
"I captained a bit back in Perth, in local club cricket and a couple of second-level games for WA, but other than that very, very limited," he said.
Hussey said he had no radical ideas for the team and expected everyone's thoughts would be considered.
