Vics do it easy in ING Cup game
Victoria made light work of a star-studded Western Australian cricket side, with big-hitting exhibitions from Jon Moss and David Hussey guiding the Bushrangers to an eight-wicket ING Cup thrashing.
After a WA batting line-up including Adam Gilchrist, Damien Martyn and Justin Langer made what seemed a competitive total of 6-247 at St Kilda Cricket Ground, Victoria smashed its way to 2-251 in just 36.2 overs.
The Bushrangers picked up the bonus point - for completing the task in less than 40 overs - with 22 balls to spare.
Hussey finished unbeaten on 75 from 51 balls, slashing eight fours and three sixes, including an enormous straight hit off the bowling of left-arm spinner Beau Casson, which had to be retrieved from Queens Rd.
He finished the match by again hitting the ball out of the ground, this time with a pull shot off paceman Darren Wates.
Brad Hodge, who shared an 118-run unbroken stand with Hussey, was also in an aggressive mood, although his unbeaten 40 from 37 balls was tame compared to Hussey's blazing knock.
Earlier, all-rounder Moss opened the innings and set the tone with a crisp-striking display in which he scored 76 from 59 balls, including 11 fours and two sixes.
Fellow opener Michael Klinger also notched a half-century, scoring 52 and taking part in a 129-run opening stand with Moss.
"The way it was going with Mossy hitting the ball so well, I was happy just to give him a bit of strike early on," Klinger said of their free-flowing partnership.
"Then I got away myself with a few fours and caught up and then he sort of went away again before he got out.
