White laments Vics loss to WA

An "embarrassed" Victorian captain Cameron White lamented his team's worst Pura Cup performance of the season, losing to Western Australia inside three days at the WACA.

The Bushrangers, defending champions in the four-day competition, produced a horrific batting display to lose by an innings and 107 runs.

After Victoria was dismissed for just 155 in its first innings, Western Australia compiled 464 in reply, with opener Mike Hussey finishing on 223 not out.

The Bushrangers were then skittled for 202, with Brad Williams (3-45) and Darren Wates (3-70) the chief destroyers for the home side.

Western Australia has moved to the top of the Pura Cup table for the first time since 1999 and captain Justin Langer admits his team now has a home final in its sights.

But the Test opener was at a loss to explain Victoria's poor performance, confessing it was the worst effort he could remember from the Bushrangers.

"Yeah, on paper it was," he said.

"It's a pretty good wicket now, I'm surprised we bowled them out for 200 or so today for sure.

"They had a lot to play for going into this game, as we did.

"They've got a very experienced side, so I'm surprised how well it went for us today."
