Taylor torches Vics
Former Victorian paceman John Taylor returned to torment the Bushrangers as Western Australia scooted clear at the top of the ING Cup table with a 101-run win.
Rookie right-armer Taylor (3-27 off 10 overs) set up the successful push for a bonus point in his third domestic one-day match in overcast conditions at the WACA Ground.
Skipper Justin Langer (115 off 145 balls) earlier provided the backbone to the WA innings while Marcus North (84no off 63 balls) provided the flair in the total of 5-270 off 50 overs.
Victoria had the home side in early trouble at 3-19 before Langer steered them to a healthy total.
Chasing 271 runs to win, the visitors made 169 (44.2 overs) as the home side marched to a five-point lead in the domestic one-day competition after five matches.
The efforts of 24-year-old Taylor, who moved to the west at the beginning of last summer, also sent a message to WA selectors after being dumped from the Pura Cup side.
Victorian opener Matthew Elliott (59) provided the only resistance at the top of the order while Andrew McDonald (55no) made an unbeaten half century.
The result left Victoria on 10 points from five outings as it crashed to its 25th one-day loss in 31 matches against WA.
Test wicketkeeper Adam Gilchrist, who dropped brilliant Indian batsman Rahul Dravid at a crucial time in the Adelaide Test, enjoyed some valuable catching practice by taking five scalps.
The Bushrangers' large run chase had hardly got started before Jon Moss (5) miscued a Taylor delivery to a diving Murray Goodwin.
