Vics cruise to comfortable win over SA
Matthew Elliott and David Hussey shared a third-wicket partnership of 126 at a run-a-ball to steer Victoria to a seven-wicket win against South Australia in the ING Cup cricket match at Adelaide Oval.
Elliott made 76, including 10 fours, and man-of-the-match Hussey was unbeaten on 81 (one six and 12 fours) in the Bushrangers' 3-189 off 36.3 overs in reply to the Redbacks' 185 off 47.1 overs.
Elliott, who holed out to mid off in the 31st over off spinner John Davison, and Hussey revived Victoria's innings - and ensured a bonus point - at a five-runs-an-over rate after Ian Harvey (8) and Brendan Joseland (7) departed early.
Earlier, Mark Cosgrove's aggressive 73 underpinned South Australia's modest total.
The 20-year-old left-hander struck 12 boundaries in his 113-ball knock.
The Redbacks were 6-136 when Cosgrove skied a comfortable catch to Elliott at deep midwicket off Michael Lewis at the start of the 35th over.
Cosgrove and Greg Blewett put on 34 in the first eight overs but Blewett's departure for 17, caught by wicketkeeper Adam Crosthwaite off Shane Harwood, signalled the beginning of the end for the Redbacks' top order.
Bushrangers captain Jonathan Moss wreaked havoc, grabbing three wickets in 15 balls with his medium-pacers.
Moss dismissed Mark Higgs (11), Callum Ferguson (4) and Redbacks skipper Graham Manou (1) as the home side slid to 5-96 in the 24th over.
Harvey - whose opening over cost 10 runs - bowled Davison (13) and Mick Miller (28) in the space of three balls in his sixth and seventh overs to ruin the Redbacks' hopes of a late-order recovery.
