Hodge, White lead Victoria to 5-329
A 223-run stand between Brad Hodge and Cameron White has secured Victoria the honours on day one of its Pura Cup cricket match against Tasmania.
White won the toss at the MCG and the home side was 5-329 at stumps, with the Victorian captain not out 100.
White brought up his century during the second-last over of the day, while Ben Hilfenhaus had Jon Moss caught behind for eight to end play.
Hodge was dismissed for 153 only six overs before stumps, driving Hilfenhaus to Michael Di Venuto at backward point.
Hodge was furious at himself, yelling his disappointment immediately after the dismissal.
Australian selector Merv Hughes watched Hodge's impressive knock, which keeps him near the top of the queue for a national recall during the upcoming Ashes series.
He and White first steadied the Victorian innings and then took control after Tasmania threatened in the morning session.
Brad Griffith dismissed openers Lloyd Mash (13) and Nick Jewell (14), with Di Venuto taking well-judged catches at second slip to leave the Bushrangers 2-31.
Hodge and Hussey put on 50, but just before lunch Hussey attempted to drive Brett Geeves and was bowled for 31.
