Bushrangers in trouble against WA
Western Australia was within reach of first innings points after humbling defending champion Victoria on day one of their Pura Cup cricket clash at the WACA on Sunday.
The day started well enough for the Bushrangers after captain Cameron White won the toss and elected to bat on a lively WACA wicket.
But that was the only highlight on a disastrous day for the visitors.
It took just two sessions for the Western Australian attack to dismiss Victoria for 155.
Brad Williams (3-41), Ben Edmondson (3-61) and Darren Wates (2-19) were all among the wickets for the home side.
In reply WA was cruising at 0-129 at stumps, with Mike Hussey unbeaten on 69 and Test opener Justin Langer 59 not out.
It has been a difficult title defence for the Bushrangers, who have only passed 200 runs in their first innings twice all season.
That dismal run continued in Perth on Sunday.
It had already been a horror week for the Victorians, who lost an ING Cup game and a Twenty20 clash to the Warriors over the past week.
Languishing in fourth place with 12 points entering Sunday's match, the Bushrangers are in danger of losing touch with the leaders just 12 months after their impressive Pura Cup triumph.
