Rogers leads WA fightback
Chris Rogers led an outstanding Western Australian fightback on day three of the Pura Cup match against NSW on Tuesday, giving the Warriors a slim hope of grabbing their first points in the competition.
Rogers ended the day unbeaten on 155 in the Warriors' second innings total of 6-355, an overall lead of 56, with Brett Dorey the other not out batsman on two.
WA was in major trouble earlier in the day after being dismissed for just 176 in its first innings, a deficit of 299, and being forced to follow-on.
NSW declared its first innings on Monday at 7-475.
The Warriors were then struggling at 3-137 as the Blues chased an innings victory.
But Rogers and Shaun Marsh (76) put on a 123-run stand for the fourth wicket and dragged the home side back into the match.
It was a vital effort for a Warriors side that has had a difficult start to the season, suffering an outright loss in its opening Pura Cup game against Victoria in Perth and losing two of its three ING Cup games.
Injured WA skipper Justin Langer, in Perth to continue his rehabilitation from a broken rib, hoped Tuesday's fight back was a step in the right direction.
"It hasn't started well at all," Langer said of the new domestic season.
"We've had some kicks in the pants early in the season, hopefully we can address them and take something out of the kicks in the pants we have had.
